Racial Healing Pilgrimage: The Scottsboro Boys

Apr 05, 2025, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Scottsboro Boys Museum, 428 W Willow St, Scottsboro, AL 35768, USA

Many remain unaware of the true story of the Scottsboro Boys, a case that exposes deep injustices in our history and challenges us to recognize injustice today. We invite you to join this pilgrimage—not just to learn, but to open our eyes and hearts to the ongoing struggle for justice. If we do not acknowledge the past, how will we ever recognize injustice in our time? Pilgrimages were once a vital part of Christian faith, and we invite you to embrace this journey as a spiritual practice. Our pilgrimage will begin at the Scottsboro Boys Museum, located in the historic Joyce Chapel, then process to A Garden of Hope, now a place of reflection but once the site of the jail where the young men were held. We will then travel to the courthouse, visit the mural dedicated to the Scottsboro Boys, and conclude our journey with a service back at the museum. The procession is approximately 1.5 mi. The Scottsboro Boys Museum will be open for tours starting at 10:00 a.m. and following the service.

The Pilgrimage will begin at 11:00 a.m. Please park at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church around 10:15 and a shuttle bus will take you from the church to the museum. Food trucks will be available. For more information or to register, please visit the Diocese website by clicking HERE
